I spent a day searching for the Sam Adams Beer LB. It was not there as
directions stated (in Arnold Arboridium) so I write to the person who
placed it in Boston. Asking him to remove it from the site or say
missing . What can we do? This is the reply:
"assume you are talking about Sam Adams Beer LB? Sounds like the
maintenance
crew found it and threw it away. Sorry you did not get it and I don't
live
there so can't replace, but thanks for letting me know."

Hi Donna,
The boxer who placed this letterbox is the well-known Silver Eagle who lives in TX by the way. Many of us place boxes while on vacation or traveling for work. There isn't a guarantee that evey box you seek will be there. Hope you enjoyed the sights, which for some, is reward enough. The box is considered a bonus.
Enjoy the hunt,
Mark

Write a nice reply back. If that doesn't work, remind him what the first three letters inassume are. LOL

Maybe I'm missing something, but it looks to me like he updated his clues
after your report, as would be considered responsible by most boxers.
As far as removing it from the site, removing boxes from the site completely
schews the counts of boxers who use the system to keep track of counts for
them. He could archive the box, but personally I would mark it as missing
after one missing report but wait to archive it a little while in case
someone else had a different experience.
I would hope you WOULD write a nice reply. He did, after all, respond to
your update and he even wrote you thanking you for your report and
apologizing that you didn't find the box!

I'm going to put my two cents in on this one as no one picked up on
the netiquette problem.
The response you received was a personal reply back from your report
post that you sent to the planter. Posting of someone's personal
replys isn't very good form. You didn't just hit the reply button,
you had to copy and paste their response onto your public posting.
While there was nothing troubling in the private response, you action
was troubling. If you had a problem with the response you received
why not take it up with the writer.
Having received similar messages from finders unable to locate our
(Don & Gwen) letterboxes, I thought that it was not written with
anything other than "Sorry", and "Thank you for sending it".
Many times planters receive notices that their letterbox is gone,
when in fact the finder just couldn't figure out clues, or followed
clues properly.
I don't understand your "What can we do?" question. You wrote, you
received an answer, and apparantly the clues were changed.

Yup, seems like everything has been accomplished "correctly". BTW... last
weekend I found a box that had been listed as missing. You never know when
something may turn up unexpectedly.

Thanks for that, Don as I picked up on that reading but you'd pointed
this out already. Personally makes me want to never reply to an
email like this again for fear of where it might end up, that's for
sure. I'm kidding - but wow! Also, just because a boxer can't find
a box does NOT mean it's not there! Adding "reported missing" to
ones's clues when it's a long distance box is about all one can do
until or unless it's "confirmed missing."
preboxed
Who has lost track of how many "attempts" were later reported "found."

It's really nice to see that he updated his clues. I can see why the original poster thought that he hadn't, since he didn't mention that he would in his reply. Although there was a bit of a misunderstanding it actually shows how finders and hiders can work together to maintain letterboxes. Even if someone plants while on vacation they can still update their clues with information they receive from finders. Kudos Donna for contacting the planter and kudos to Silver Eagle for updating the status.
